— Description from selecting The Studio map on Slaughter Me Street 1999
|
The Studio is one of the playable locations in Slaughter Me Street: 1999, being it's fourth level.
Appearance[]
Slaughter Me Street: 1999[]
The Studio, also known as Happy Sun Studios, appears as the next level after the Street on the Normal mode in 1999. It is the location where the Foggle Friends show was filmed and produced. Outside, the Studio has a couple of trailers as well as a statue of Wollof. The Studio itself is large and has many rooms that can be explored including some stages, a workshop, a sound recording booth, wardrobe, restrooms, some offices, a green room and more. There are also areas such as catwalks that player can traverse.
According to the Files, there were several strange issues at Happy Sun Studios during the filming of the Foggle Friends show. These events include lights flickering at strange intervals, audio equipment producing bizarre droning noises, and computers acting on their own, opening or creating files with nothing but nonsensical ramblings. There was even an incident that involved a Henry costume. During filming the Stage Switch System went off on it's own killing both actors in the Henry suit and presumably damaging the suit to the point it needed to be remade. This resulted in the episode being cut all together. Tim Denson himself would be seen occasionally going to one of the star trailers where he could be heard speaking to someone, despite nobody being there and there being no phones for him to use.
Areas of Interest[]
Studio Lot[]
The Studio Lot is a large outdoor area that the player will start in and will eventually have to exit through not to dissimilar to the front door of the house in 123 Slaughter Me Street 2. The Lot itself is decorated with cars, trailers, trees, fountains, benches, and a Statue of Wollof. There are also three strange exit points covered in blood bramble that will serve as one of the escape points when all Relics are collected. While collectables can be found out here, only a few can actually spawn out in this "Zone", though two files can be found out here. One can be found on one of the fountains and one can be found on one of the boxes outside the building.
Studio 4 Building[]
This is the space where most of the collectables are going to be in. The building has three points of entering and exiting, the lobby, the fire escape, and through the basement. Each leads to one of the three floors of the building. The building itself is rather plain with only a few signs and posters on the brick building itself.
Stage Switch System[]
A part of the "Film set" area of the Studio, the Stage Switch System itself holds a lot of significance given its a state of the art piece of tech that allows filming to go by faster but it's not without its risks. According to the manual, the system is meant to switch from one set location to another without "having to set up any additional equipment or move any heavy stages or props more than needed", but can be extremely dangerous when used incorrectly. Due to this, the manual states that when moving sets, all personnel should be evacuated from the set first to avoid serious bodily injury or death. This is because system utilizes a lot of moving metal parts, and those parts are extremely dangerous as they can effectively tear up whatever is caught in them. As such, should an incident occur, The system needs to be unplugged, go to the basement where the affected individual's remains may be, and conduct a very thorough cleaning of the machinery and set. Once this has been done an inspected operations would return to normal and the local authorities should be notified of the incident. An example of such an accident was when the System seemingly "went off" by itself while filming was going on for an episode and both puppeteers for the Henry character were caught and were killed in the incident with Henry's costume needing to be repaired and the episode ultimately being scraped because of it.
The Stage Switch System itself can be activated with a pull of a lever, where a blue curtain will move to block the player's view and also prevent them from going closer while the system is at work. There's a total of three different stages that can be seen but only two will be available in a given run of the map. These stages are:
- The front façade of a house with blue walls, green door and purple steps and roof. The numbers on the side of the house greatly resemble the logo numbers found throughout the series and there's a "living" purple and green mailbox complete with eyes, mouth, teeth, tongue and a flag. The set also has a city backdrop that is covered by some bushes and two trees, the floor simply consists of a stretch of grass, a sidewalk and a road. While the door can be open it'll only lead to behind the set which has a staircase down.
- The inside of a house, with blue and purple striped wallpaper, yellow and orange striped flooring and a blue rug. There's a green door and the room is furnished with a purple drawer, purple couch, purple chair, a brown and purple nightstand with a green phone, and a pot with three flowers with different colored petals (one pink, one blue, one purple). On the walls are a picture of Wollof, A Clock with eyes, a window, and a cuckoo clock. There is also a blue slide that can be interacted with for a secret achievement. Just go out the door and go up a set of stairs that will lead up to the slide, doing this will give the player the "Fun at the Studio" Achievement.
- A Cave setting. This area is the only set out of the three to have a Safe Zone, A way to the upper portion is located on the side of the set.
A file can be found by the lever and a Relic can spawn in any of these sets. Although only one will be in the sets if one spawns there. Like the Bridges in the Forest, the Stage Switch System can not be activated if a creature is on the stage. outside of the colored sets there are four metal girder beams around the stage with metal stairs and flooring in the area behind the stage with unpainted wooden walls. and while not part of the system itself there are a few studio lights and boxes behind the sets.
Workshop[]
Located near the back of the "Film Set", this area much like the smaller one in the House is home to several different props, masks, puppets and costumes (many of which are either laid out or "sat" on the counters or are hanging on the walls) as well as some tools, boxes, waste bins. A file can be found beside one of these puppets (Specifically Gulos from Midnight Evil). The general layout only includes two counters with an island the player can walk around, all with cabinets with a shelf on the back wall. Near the ceiling is a ventilation pipe and a TV screen in one of the corners.
Film Set[]
The Film set is a large area used for filming that is connected to the break room and the ground floor hallway and includes a Workshop and the Stage Switch System. The space has several long tables with chairs placed onto them with a single waste bin at the end of either side of the rows. By one wall is a massive shelf and the other has boxes, a line of clothes and a janitor bucket up next to it. Up front near the Stage Switch System is a few cameras and studio lights set up. Above is the Catwalks. A file can be found on one of the tables
Green Room[]
A Room presumably used for VFX purposes, it is an entirely green room that ironically has a Safe Zone located in the corner behind a row of cloths. Also in this room are two studio lights (which light up one side of the room) with a single camera set up, studio folding chairs, some music stands, a table with come cameras and a stool.
Wardrobe and Make up[]
Restrooms[]
These are a two restrooms with a plant, waste bin, four stalls with toilets and four sinks with mirror for each restroom. Unlike the House, these restrooms are connected with presumably one side for men and another side for women. There is however, a smaller restroom next to the lobby with a simple waste bin, toilet, sink and mirror with navy tiled walls and a grey concrete. Each of these spaces have a vent.
Sound Recording Studio[]
Board Room[]
Break Room[]
Computer Offices[]
Catwalks[]
This area overlooks the whole Film Set. Accessible from the top floor through the lighting studio, this set of walkways can be traversed to see what might be below with a vent on the ceiling and no vaulting points.
Basement[]
Vents[]
Unlike the House, Most of these vents can not be accessed by the player and are usually located in the ceiling of certain rooms. These vents allow Gomez to "quickly" appear in any room that has one. The Vents include:
- One in all Restrooms
- One above the Catwalks
- One in the Wardrobe and Make Up department
(To be added soon)
Tips[]
- Check the Stage Switch System. Sometimes if a Relic spawns in the filming area, it will appear on one of the sets of the Stage Switch Systems and sometimes the player will need to use the lever to switch the stages so they can get the token. It does make a bit of noise so it is best to try this during Pre-game if possible.
- Like the Street level before it, this level utilizes a different type of vent that Gomez to use to drop down on the player if they are not careful. The player will need to make sure they are not directly under any of them, there's a sound cue of banging from the vents to alert the player of this.
- This level also uses the exact same threats as the Street but in a more confined area. If the player knows how to deal with them, they will need to account for the new environment and how that may affect how they handle fending off the puppets. Also like the previous level, this level only utilizes four of those threats (not counting Nightmare).
- All the Exits are outside, so the player would simply need to get out of the studio and go towards one of these exits. Just remember that one or two of them will be closed depending on the difficulty. If a Relic is spawned outside of the Studio itself, try and save that one for last as it will make the Exit phase much faster due to all the exits being relatively in one spot.
Trivia[]
- The Studio map is based off of the "Wollof Showtape" teaser showing off Wollof's new Evolutions model while taking place in one of the Sets that would be included in the Stage Switch System that would show the exterior of the house. This is the only location that is implied to exist but is never actually seen in the games because of this.
- The Studio is the only level where no threats are added nor removed from the roster, featuring the exact same amount of threats from The Street.
- Similar to the House, The Studio's workshop is full of Easter eggs and references to both Slaughter Me Street and IGS in general. Which goes as follows:
- A Low poly version of the Follower's original model.
- The Nightmare's early design from Slaughter Me Street 1's ending and Slaughter Me Street 2's cutscenes.
- A Modeled Gomex.
- The 3 Urklings from Midnight Evil.
- The Helmet of one of the Developer's characters
- A Mask of a community member (Which was achieved after they beaten the Demo on Slaughter with Tank Controls)
- The posters found on some of the walls of the Studio are also from Midnight Evil. These posters serve as parodies to several different films.
- Unlike the other locations, The Studio is the only one that does not appear to be completely abandoned despite any events that are going on in terms of the story found in the Files. When the Investigator came to the studio there were still people working there, as he asked around the location where Tim might be and none of them know where Tim was and have not seen him in over a week.
- It's possible that unlike most maps, the Studio is the only map where there's an element that is never seen nor addressed in the Files. These being the exits as they are not part of the natural environment. It is heavily implied that Tim's "tracks" ended in this location with no other leads, yet in the level these out of place exits lead to the Inferno so it is likely these structures were not present by the time the Investigator searched the studio.
- A few things can be inferred with how the show runs as well as details about said show based on the sets, puppets, and props that while not directly canon to the main series could give some insight on the fictional show itself.
- Wollof (The Follower) appears to be the main character of the show, judging by his likeness being seen both on the set and outside the studio.
- Much like how actual televised puppet shows go through different puppet builds of the same character over the years, it may be possible that characters like Wollof would have old designs that would later be replaced by a newer build. This same logic could apply to Gomez.
- While it is unclear if the alternate color characters are real or their own characters, Gomex's appearance could allude to the use of multiple of the same type of puppets with slight alterations.
