The Greeter, also known as Egret, is the secondary antagonist and one of the three puppets in 123 Slaughter Me Street. She is also featured on the Foggel Friends poster alongside The Follower and The Hunter.

The Greeter makes an appearance in 123 Slaughter Me Street 2. She appears in a lifeless state along with the other puppets from the first game.

Physical Appearance[]

The Greeter is a pink, furry, and slender humanoid egret, with two dark brown horns and a greyish brown beak. Her fur ends at her elbow joints so that brown skin is seen on her forearms and hands, which are large and four-fingered with sharp, yellow claws protruding from the ends of them. She has four tiny white teeth on her bottom jaw. She has two-toed feet which have claws the same color as her horns.

In the first game, the Greeter's has black eyes with red irises. In the second game, Her eyes were changed to blue with white sclera and is the only one of the returning puppets to have this change in the game instead of only showing up in promotion or the loading screen.

In Retro, She is almost entirely pink outside of her belly which is a greyish color. Her horns are also light grey rather than dark brown and her beak is yellow. Her sprite also seems to have tuffs of fur pointing outwards that is not present in any of her other appearances.

In Evolutions her original model appeared to be largely similar to her appearance in the first game with thin arms and beak similar to the original, but her eyes are seen as glowing red in the first trailer. Her early Evolutions model also had different feet, now resembling talons with three toes. In her new model however, her arms were thickened to give a proper "costume" feel to the character compared to her first model. Her fur now not only ends at her elbow joints, but her knee joins as well as her lower legs are now brown similar to her arms retaining the three toed feet similar to talons. Her beak is now more yellow and pointed and her horns are grey. She now also has purple irises that are able to glow red as seen with teasers.

History/Behavior[]

123 Slaughter Me Street[]

The Greeter will spring out from the doorway in front of the player while waving her hand, she will linger there and block the path. The player must walk slowly and cautiously to avoid the Greeter when she pops out and the light must be shone at her. Once shone at, she will cover her eyes and retreat into the doorway, screeching. However, if the player somehow does not activate the flashlight in time or bumps into her, she will jump out of the doorway, killing the player. In comparison, the Greeter's behavior is more sporadic and less consistent than her other puppet companions.

It is recommended that the player does not continue to walk while the Greeter is blinded by the flashlight if she hasn't left back to the doorway she's at. Otherwise, the Greeter will still attack the player. The player needs to wait until the Greeter completely retreats.

123 Slaughter Me Street Retro[]

Much like in the first game, She will stay hidden in corridors before appearing in front of the player from one of the corridors, staying in that spot until either she kills the player or the player shines their flashlight on her, which will cause her to cover her eyes and retreat back into the corridor. This process will repeat and get more consistent on later floors. She can only kill the player if they run into her, or if they do not react to her on time as she will quickly move towards the player should they not use their flashlight on her.

She always appears after a fight with Nightmare before the Player reaches the exit.

123 Slaughter Me Street 2[]

The Greeter, as well as the other puppets from the first game appear in 123 Slaughter Me Street 2 as lifeless puppets, not being a threat to the player. She also makes an appearance as a token the player can find, this particular token can be found in Level 3: Calm before the storm located in the cupboard. While not an active threat, the Greeter still holds a few distinctions as she appears in the opening cutscene not only on the Foggle Friends poster, but also as one of the several puppets Tim can be seen working on as her head can be located on the same work station the, what was then considered to be, Nightmare's head was on. She is also moved around the house much more frequently than the other puppets as although she appears in the workshop in most levels and ends up on the living room couch on the final level, She also appears at the bottom of the kitchen stairs in level 3, sitting on a chair in the living room on level 5, and inside of the Daughter's closet in level 8.

123 Slaughter Me Street Super Retro[]

In Super Retro, She retains the same mechanics she had from Retro. Although in Infinity Mode she can have the mechanics from any of the other main puppets on a given floor. Interestingly in Story mode, Outside of the penultimate floor, She is active on every single floor in that mode compared to the other non-boss creatures.

Slaughter Me Street: 1999[]

She first appears in the Street level alongside most of her fellow puppets and will continue to be a threat from that point onwards. She is capable of appearing nearby the player very quickly (or teleporting) if certain conditions are met and does it the most out of all the creatures. She also has a chance to linger around Relics as whenever she looks around or idles, she has a chance of picking a Relic on the map, go to it and stay there for a period of time.

Like the other puppets, She has her own Token and she appears on the Foggle Friends Poster Relic. While Egret is not mentioned by name, Her creation comes from Tim's dream seeing a "Lanky Bird Monster" break into his room along with a "Blue Goat entity" which gives him the idea for Egret and Wollof respectively.

Other Appearances[]

Beware! This page contains content that is considered Non Canon to the main series. Please keep this in mind as you read the article.

Midnight Evil[]

In Midnight Evil, The Greeter (as well as the rest of the puppets) appear as figures on one of the dresser drawers purely as a reference to other games IGS has produced.

Odd Stories for Odd Children[]

The Greeter (along with the Follower) would appear as semi reoccurring characters on the OSFOC channel from 2017 to 2020. Unlike the Follower, She was an animatronic puppet that used the same mechanisms as another character from the show.

Trivia[]

  • The Greeter originally had more visible eyes and fluffier fur in the video where she and the Follower are singing while the first game was under development that was slightly similar to her official artwork design.
  • While the Greeter never speaks in the games, one of the earliest teasers has her and the Follower singing.
    • On the non canon Odd Stories channel, the Greeter is capable of speech like the Follower.
  • The Greeter can be considered a "secondary" main mascot of the series as she frequently appears alongside the Follower in several instances such as official art and media from the games, appearances on the Foggle Friends posters and even appearing alongside her fellow puppet in the unofficial Odd Stories.
  • From another one of her early models, she looks slightly different with light-orange eyes, longer horns, and completely missing any fur.
  • In one of the screenshots of her early model, the colors of developing fur are blue and then green.
  • The Greeter seems to resemble the Fireys from the Jim Henson movie Labyrinth.
  • There exists a somewhat helpful bug where the player can still shine the flashlight at her while facing back.
  • In the game's files, she's mentioned as "Muppet 2", meaning that she was the second puppet to be modeled.
  • She along with the Follower and Nightmare are the only threats to have multiple jumpscares in a game with Greeter having multiple in 123 Slaughter Me Street, and Nightmare having multiple in Slaughter Me Street: 1999, and Follower having multiple in both games.
    • Out of these threats, She has the most with 3 different jumpscare animations from the first game.
  • In 123 Slaughter Me Street Retro, there is a glitch where the player will get stuck and the threats will not able to kill them. The Greeter is effected by this, as she can not kill the player if she's spawned in when the glitch happens.
  • In 123 Slaughter Me Street 2, She is the puppet with the most spots she can be located in around the House with a total of five different locations.
  • Strangely, while her model in the second game is the same as the first game's, her model is slightly modified as she has different eyes compared to her original model.
  • Her real name is Egret. This was officially announced in a tweet, teasing SMS: Evolutions. However, her name, along with the other puppets' names were first revealed through the animation streams for the game.
    • "Egret" is not only an anagram of "Greet" but it is also the species of bird which she happens to be.
  • In Rigging streams for the characters in Evolutions, Greeter and the other puppets' eyes turn black during their jump scares.
  • In the initial release of Slaughter Me Street: 1999, The Greeter also had a mechanic on top of her teleport similar to the Follower in which if stunned, should the player look away she will recover immediately so in order to effectively get away from her they player would have to keep an eye on her while stunned to ensure she does not recover quickly. This was later removed in the 1.03 update.
