Jumpscares are one of the mechanics for the 123 Slaughter Me Street series, and is the result of the player's failure to fend off any of the enemies.

123 Slaughter Me Street[]

Failure upon fending off the puppets will result in a jumpscare splattering the screen with blood. The Follower and Greeter have different jumpscare animations that could be used at random with the Follower having 2 animations and the Greeter having 3.

The Follower[]

The Follower will attack the player if they hasn't checked on him nor keep their flashlight on while walking down the stairs. He will attack without the player noticing should the player not keep an eye on him or keep the flashlight on when walking down the stairs.

The Greeter[]

If the player isn't careful enough to check on the Greeter and lets her contact the player while peeking out from the doorway, she'll immediately attack them. The player must blind her with the flashlight, and wait until she panics and retreats, otherwise, even if blinded, she will attack the player regardless should they bump into her.

The Waiter[]

If the player hasn't checked on the Waiter carefully nor heard his growls, he'll quickly attack the player.

123 Slaughter Me Street 2[]

Failure upon hiding from and getting caught by the demons will result in a jumpscare. Interestingly, there's small differences depending on what level or what version of the game is being played despite the animations used being identical. From level 8 onwards the demons gain yellow glowing eyes in their jumpscare animation and in the Lights Out update all the demons have different fur textures compared to the previous version of the game and retains the yellow eyes regardless of the level.

The Seeker[]

The Seeker will chase after the player if he sees them. If they do not hide or out run him, he will catch the player and jumpscare them.

The Stalker[]

The Stalker behaves similarly to the Seeker and will chase after the player if she sees them and they do not hide from her sight. Should the player be caught, they will be jumpscared.

The Screamer[]

The Screamer will not actively chase the player. If He sees the player however, He will scream, attracting the other demons. If the player gets to close to the Screamer, he will give the player a game over.

The Nightmare[]

The Nightmare will only come out of the shed. If the player stands by the shed for long enough, they will activate the Nightmare. Should the player not out run the Nightmare they will get a game over.

123 Slaughter Me Street Retro[]

The player will be killed upon getting direct contact with one of the threats (Follower, Greeter, Waiter, Nightmare, and Gomez). Unlike the other installments, this game does not feature jumpscares instead immediately giving the player a game over with the option of going to the menu or trying the level again.

123 Slaughter Me Street Super Retro[]

Like 123 Slaughter Me Street Retro, The Player will be killed upon getting direct contact with any of the threats (Follower, Greeter, Waiter, Hunter, and Nightmare). This time, the jumpscares all consists of a single image that vibrates before being given a game over with the option of quitting or trying the level again in Story Mode.

Slaughter Me Street 1999[]

Like previous games, the player will be jumpscared and killed if caught by any of the threats in a given map or challenge. Unlike in most of the games however, the jumpscares in this game are more graphic with almost each threat dismembering the player in some way inspired by classic 80's horror with blood and gore. The Player can also be jumpscared from the vent by creatures who can crawl into the vent after them, but only the Nightmare has two distinct jumpscare animations in this game. Every time the player dies, a pool of blood can be spotted from where they last died.

In the Steam demo, Some of the jumpscare animations for the creatures were updated to have slightly different endings compared to the demos on GameJolt and Itch.io. Seeker's Jumpscare for example will have him whack the player with their own arms after ripping them off rather than staring them down like in previous demos.

Trivia[]

  • In the trailers for 123 Slaughter Me Street 2, Some of the demons had variations of their jumpscares. Some of these were rendered, while others were early version of their in-game jumpscares, none of which ended up being in the final game.
  • Because of Slaughter Me Street: Evolutions' development, All the jumpscares shown off in it's first trailers are all scrapped as the old models were replaced with new ones with entirely different jumpscare animations than the ones shown in the trailer.
  • The Screamer's jumpscare used to tease an early version of the third game is actually a fan made animation that Kolbek got permission to use for the Odd Stories Channel.
  • 123 Slaughter Me Street Retro is the only game which features no jumpscares.
  • The Original 123 Slaughter Me Street, and Slaughter Me Street 1999 are the only games where the jumpscares feature some form of blood from the player.
    • They're also the only games to feature different jumpscare animations for some of the threats.
  • The Pink Follower and the Yeti both have their own jumpscares, albeit recolored versions of their original counterparts.
  • The Greeter is currently the only threat to have the most jumpscare variations in a single game being 3 in 123 Slaughter Me Street.
