Turning around and using your light is important. Growls are good, remember that.

— Hint from Floor 7

The Follower is the main antagonist and one of the puppets featured on the Foggle Friends poster in 123 Slaughter Me Street. He first appears on the beginning level, Floor 7 and onwards.

The Follower also makes an appearance in 123 Slaughter Me Street 2. He, along with the rest of the puppets from the first game are in lifeless state and is largely "replaced" by a demon called the Seeker.

Physical Appearance[]

The Follower is a furry, turquoise, humanoid-goat puppet that has brownish horns spiraling behind his head and has a medium height. He also has goat-like ears that are about the size of his eyes, as well as fangs with blood dripping from the left side his mouth. He has matted fur like most of his counterparts. He only has a thumb and no fingers as his hands resemble mittens and has no toes as his feet resemble socks.

In the first game, his eyes are black with white pupils and grey sockets. In the second game, however, his eyes are blue, along with the others.

In Retro, The Follower has dark blue fur with a greyish stomach similar to the Greeter's. His horns are also considerably larger and grey rather the color of his original counterpart up until that point.

In an earlier version of SMS: Evolutions His design is slightly altered. He now has 4 teeth on his upper jaw and has red eyes on his early model, still sharing his appearance from the first game with sock like feet. For his new model The Follower still sports the red eyes and extra teeth, but he now has hooves, is a darker shade of blue, and has blood stains similar to his original model.

History[]

123 Slaughter Me Street[]

The Follower will "follow" the player throughout the floors, but He can only move without being watched. As the player moves up through the hallway, the Follower will begin to appear. As the floor progresses, the player must check behind themselves to see if the Follower is lurking there and shine their light on him. Once the player shines the flashlight, he will cover his eyes briefly keeping him in place. Depending on how frequently the player stops to check on him, he can quickly and quietly catch up and kill the player if they are not careful. For SMS: Evolutions however, at least in earlier screenshots, it appears he still walks towards the player until they shine their light on him. However, this feature has seemingly been removed as we can see in a development video that he now functions more like his SMS 1 counterpart.

Oh yeah, remember, keep your light on at the stairs.

— Hint after the player is killed by The Follower at the stairs.

Also, the player must not forget to keep the flashlight on in the stairs, or The Follower will ambush and kill the player. (This feature will not return in SMS: Evolutions.)

At the end of the game, The Follower along with the other puppets are seen walking towards the player through the fire.

123 Slaughter Me Street 2[]

The Follower, as well as the other puppets from the first game reappear although they serve no threat to the player as they are merely lifeless puppets. The Follower is also seen as a collectable token the player could get.

123 Slaughter Me Street Retro[]

In 123 SMS Retro, He will charge towards the player from the left side of the screen (Behind the player). The Player must shine their flashlight at him to ward him off causing him to retreat. As the player advances through the levels, The Follower becomes more aggressive charging towards the player more often and will even be faster in some levels. Should the player fail to ward off the Follower, they will get a game over.

He is the only puppet to be active in every single level including the last one, "What have you Done" where all other enemies are not active except for him.

123 Slaughter Me Street Super Retro[]

In Super Retro, Follower has the exact same mechanics as he did in Retro. However, due to Infinity mode, he has the chance of using a mechanic from one of the other characters.

Unlike Retro however, he's not active on every floor.

Speculations[]

This article or section contain speculation, so please keep that in mind while reading.

The Follower is theorized to represent the Police Officer that Tim Denson shot, hence the color blue (a frequent color for police uniforms) and the concept of him being "followed".

The reason why it makes sense for him to be called "the Follower" is because he follows the player through the hallways of the complex. Much like how a cop would chase down a criminal.

The Follower also greatly resembles The Seeker, A demon from the 2nd game. It is implied that the Follower's design may have been inspired by the Seeker as both are blue furred, red eyed, and hooved characters.

Other Appearances[]

Beware! This page contains content that is considered Non Canon to the main series. Please keep this in mind as you read the article.

Midnight Evil[]

The Follower (as well as the rest of the puppets) appear as figures on one of the dresser drawers purely as a reference to other games IGS has produced. The Follower is also seen as a nightlight that can be seen in-between the closet and the radio.

Odd Stories for Odd Children[]

The Follower (along with the Greeter) would appear as semi reoccurring characters on the OSFOC channel.

Trivia[]

  • The Follower was drastically changed throughout the development progress. These changes include:
    • Having long fur on his mockup look.
    • Having black eyes with white glowing pupils.
    • Having a navy-blue fur color.
  • The Follower may be based on the character Cookie Monster from the children's show Sesame Street.
  • There's an error where when close to the player, the Follower's arm will clip through one of the doorways.
  • The Follower was probably the first puppet to be modeled since he was the first one shown and is called "Muppet 1" in the game files.
  • While the Follower never speaks in the games, one of the earliest teasers has him and the Greeter singing.
    • The Follower also speaks on the non canon Odd Stories channel.
  • He and the other puppets from the first game had plushies you can buy.
  • His real name is Wollof. This was first seen in a teaser for Slaughter Me Street Evolutions, where The Follower is dancing.
    • Wollof is Follow spelled backwards.
  • The Follower, along with Greeter and Waiter appears in an Easter egg in 123 SMS 2. This Easter egg is called "fluffy town". The image used was originally made by Creeperchild, a digital artist on DeviantArt, where they drew the puppets in a cutesy appearance.
    • Said artist officially recognized the Easter egg.[1]
  • The Follower has an Easter egg in 123 Slaughter Me Street Retro where he appears pink. This is a reference to a bug in earlier versions of the first game where he would appear texture less.
    • This Easter egg would go on to appear in other Slaughter Me Street Games including Evolutions and Super Retro.
